Questions, problems or a raw file that won't open? Email contact@kvds.media. Please mention your Mac, your macOS version and the camera that made the file.
Which cameras work?
Raw files from cameras with a Bayer sensor (Hasselblad, Fujifilm GFX, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Pentax, Leica and others) and DNG files, including Lightroom HDR and panorama merges. Fujifilm's X series uses an X-Trans sensor, which can't be made into plates; GFX medium format works.
My Nikon files won't open.
Nikon's High Efficiency (HE and HE★) raws use a compression PlateMaker can't read. Convert them with Adobe's free DNG Converter and open the DNG, or set the camera to Lossless compressed raw.
Does the DNG keep the look?
Yes. A DNG opens in Lightroom and Camera Raw with the toning, contrast, vignette and grain applied as normal, editable settings. It's close to PlateMaker's preview, not identical, because Lightroom renders differently.
Why is the plate half the size of my photo?
PlateMaker uses one sensor site per 2×2 block instead of inventing the missing colours, so the plate has half the width and height. That's where its clean look comes from.
Where do exports go?
Choose in PlateMaker > Settings > Export: ask each time, next to the original, a subfolder, or one folder.
